Narrator

Narrator is a muse owned by the Discord server, not by any one member. It never lands in a personal muse library, does not need share accepts, and only works in that guild (not DMs or other servers).

Use it for disposable NPCs, scene dressing, announcements, and shared “storyteller” voices so staff are not burning personal muse slots on one-off faces.

Who can use it

Access is role-based. No muse sharing is involved.

If a role picker is left empty, only Manage Server has that capability. Narrator must be Enabled in the dashboard before Discord commands and proxying work.

Set up in Studio

  1. Open Servers and pick a guild you administer where MultiMuse is installed.

  2. In the Narrator panel, set Display name, Trigger (default is often ST:), and upload a cropped avatar.

  3. Turn Enabled on and save.

  4. Under Access, choose Who can use and Who can add faces (for example a staff role for use, a worldbuilding role for faces).

  5. Add faces — each face is a disposable NPC under Narrator: name, optional image, optional trigger.

Avatars and face images are upload and crop in the dashboard (same flow as Muse Studio). Face triggers can use Suggest to number from the Narrator prefix (ST: → ST1:, ST2:, …), or you can type your own.

Faces vs the base Narrator

  • The base Narrator has one display name, trigger, and avatar for the whole server.

  • A face is a name (and optional avatar / trigger) under that Narrator — the shared NPC catalog for your team.

  • A face trigger posts as that face for that message (same idea as alias triggers on personal muses).

  • Face triggers cannot match the base Narrator trigger, and must be unique among faces.

Posting in Discord

Anyone with use access posts with the Narrator like any other muse: type the trigger, then your message.

Examples:

  • ST: The gates open at dawn. — posts as the base Narrator.

  • ST1: Briar clears their throat. — posts as the face whose trigger is ST1: (if you set one).

In muse-feed channels, Narrator posts use the same classic embed style as other muses. Triggers are case-sensitive (st: and ST: are different).

Channel face — /narrator set

When you want a specific face in a channel without typing a face trigger every time (for example a news or court channel):

  • /narrator set — optional face — Bind that face for your Narrator posts in this channel or thread.

  • Omit face to clear the binding.

Face triggers still override the channel face for that message, the same way alias triggers override channel aliases on personal muses. Channel faces are per user. Threads inherit the parent channel’s face unless you set one on the thread.

Day-to-day identity, roles, editing, and deletion are easiest in the Servers dashboard. Discord commands cover listing, quick adds, and channel faces.

Backup and transfer

In the Narrator panel under Backup / Transfer:

  • Export downloads JSON for the Narrator identity and faces.

  • Import as Narrator upserts faces by name on this server (optional replace-all). Role settings are kept.

  • Import as muses creates personal muses in your library (Narrator + each face), with name/trigger dedupe.

Importing as muses can carry over message counts from the backup. Use that path when you want a campaign voice to become someone’s personal muse, not when you only need shared server NPCs.
